"City of Patriots!", develops an easy and manageable game system that simulates urban combats in the Napoleonic era. This manual deals with the popular uprising of May 2, 1808 in the city of Madrid, and is designed for two players. "City of Patriots!" contains general rules that are designed for players who are not experts in war games in order to have a fun time that takes little time. Expert players will find, at the end, Advanced Rules to simulate the reality of the contest more thoroughly. The game map represents the city of Madrid where the contest took place. The map has printed a network of areas to delimit the movements of troops and citizens through the city. The large areas represent the historic districts of Madrid. Within each district there are small areas, which represent the historic neighborhoods of the city[1],which will help us when it comes to placing the units correctly. [1] The names of the districts and neighborhoods are those existing in Madrid in 1808. In the game it has been arranged that the turns simulate time, so that each turn will be equivalent to 60 minutes of real time. During this time troops and patriots will be able to move, fight, charge or regroup, and even do nothing. The game consists of military and civilian tiles representing 4 types of units that exist in the game: infantry, cavalry and artillery, as well as civilian units; there are also markers for the game. There are also some tables that will help the player. PHASES OF THE GAME: The game has been organized in Turns; within each turn there are several phases, always starting with the Spanish player. The player who plays will be called an "active player". Phase I: Letters of Events and Reinforcements. Letters of command. Players must take cards from Events to know what happens during the current turn. In addition, each side takes the "Command" cards according to regulations, and will use them in some, none or all phases of the turn in play, discosing them after their use. Reinforcements are placed. Phase II: The active player can do the following: Move and fight. Phase III: Revolt phase, which takes place at the end of the French player's turn and is for both players. Depending on the outcome of the events, and according to the number of Spanish casualties or French soldiers, the revolt box is adjusted, which tells us the number of event cards that can be stolen from the deck for the next turn. This box wants to represent the level of fury that each contender has for the next turn. Each player replenishes his hand of Command cards according to regulations. This sequence will be repeated until the end of the game. Start the game with the forces deployed as indicated in the reinforcement book and start playing the Spanish player on turn 1.
